Summer is almost gone although you would never know it here in So Cal where the temperature has been 101 - 104 for the last couple of weeks.

I have been busy doubling my inventory for a boutique being held in November. I have been working on a lot of Halloween dolls and of course angels.

I found an angel pattern I just fell in love with called the "Kneeling Angel and Child" designed by Edna Bridges of Plum Thicket Folk Art. Visit her blog at http://www..patterngallery.blogspot.com/.

Zeldabeth The Witch

Another first for me. A witch made from my own pattern. One thing I have learned from making her is that after heavy staining a light colored wash works very well. It gives just a hint of color and gives the doll a truely worn look.

I think she turned out very cute.

Lovey

Well first doll I made from my own pattern is finished. I am calling her "Lovey". I have incorporated all the forms that I love about primitive dolls, i.e. long skinny legs, big feet and I prefer for them to have fingers versus the mitten hands. Her face is machine sculpted which becomes easier the more you do however I think the next doll will have a pancake face and I will paint her features on.

Lovey's underskirt was made from a used shear curtain and I added lace to the bottom that I found at a thrift shop. Her dress is made from left over material from another project. Her hat is a little unusual, I have been making so many witches hats lately the shape just drew itself. The bling around her hat I still am not sure about. May have to find something a little smaller and not so flashy.

I have great respect for all those designers out there, especially all those designers who come up with such unique and wonderful designs. I am going to try a few more of my own designs, perhaps a witch, and see what happens. Right now I don't think that pattern making is my forte.

Summer Rushing Past Me

Here it is almost the end of July. It has been so hot here in Southern California that the only thing a person can do it to stay indoors in the air conditioning and sew. I am making a doll from a pattern I have designed myself. She is put together and has been coffee stained. I am not that happy with her head as of yet and may change the shape. I love how her hands turned out. Don't have a name for her as of yet, that will come when she is finished.

I will add more pictures of her as I progress.

I cannot believe how fast this summer is passing. I have been working on Halloween dolls and soon will be making some cute prim Santas. I am usually a very neat and organized person however, when I came home today after running some errands I looked into my workroom and started to laugh. What a pig sty. Am I the only crafter who works in these conditions? I get so carried away with my projects that I don't put things back and before I know it, the place is in chaos..........time to get organized again and get this place in order.

I will be posting some works in progress shortly and list a few hints on how to stuff a doll's neck so it will not flop. Til then. Prim Blessings.

Hank's Angels - To Protect and Serve

Hank's Angel
"To Protect and Serve"
In tribute to my dad I have started to make angels in his honor. A couple of days before he passed he was talking to someone and asking them "How they changed the ambience of the room because it was so peaceful and smelled good". I asked him what he said and he turned his head and looked at me and repeated, "How did you change the ambience of the room. It was so peaceful and smelled good". Although he had turned to face me when he replied he was looking at me but I am sure that he was not seeing me and I believe he was seeing an angel or perhaps many angels. I believe they were preparing him for his journey to the other side.
He was a police officer for 25 years in San Diego hence the angels motto, To Protect and Serve. The 523 on angels banner was his badge number.
This is the first in a line of many more to come. I thought the gold glitter around the wings would signafy the gold badge he wore for so many years but I am thinking that it is not quite right for a "grungy" doll. Will think of another use for the gold glitter, I like it...........
This doll pattern was created by Janelle for Warmheart. When I first saw the pattern I immediately knew that this was the one I would use for Hank's Angels.

Feeling Angels

This month has been very hard for my family and myself. My dad has been very ill for the past two months and passed on Memorial Day morning. My feelings were bittersweet. He was no longer in pain and being the proud man he was, I know that he did not want to live the way he had been living the past two months. I am writing this because although I am very sad I know that death is not the end, it is a begining. While I was sitting with him on the Saturday before he left us I felt the presence of his parents. My beloved grandparents. I saw that my grandmother was smiling. I knew then that it would not be long. He went peacefully and that was what I felt. Peace. There have been many signs this past week that he is still around, I am sure to make sure that all of us are okay. I loved him very much and will miss him terribly.

I believe in Angels

Here are pictures of the angels I have made so far from cloth and clay. I love angels and hope to have my Etsy shop overflowing with them.

Angels are always memorable because they never forget what really matters. Angels are bright lights in the midst of our lives. Author unknown

Welcome

Welcome to Gram's Grundy Prims blog. In the world of dolls Prims is short for primitives. I am not a blogger but fast becoming one and would love to hear from other doll makers from around the world. Angels are my favorite dolls to make and when I sell one or give one away as a gift I feel that I am spreading the love.

I also have started making cloth and clay dolls. I think they are precious and they are fun to make. For me at least I never know what their little faces are going to look like.

I am hoping to get ideas from other doll makers and and share techniques etc.

Prim Blessings
